In May of 2017, I was accepted into the University of Nebraska-Omaha Writing program. July of 2019, I graduated with a lot more than just additional knowledge of creative non-fiction and fiction writing craft. I graduated a better writer, sure. What I was given was a tribe who believed I could when life was doing everything it could to make me believe otherwise.
I spent the four semesters working mostly on stories about living with unexplained illnesses that were eventually traced back to a 10 mm pituitary tumor in the right lobe of my pituitary gland. That tumor and the trauma to my body became the bulk of the subject matter while short fiction was my fun outlet.
If you’ve clicked your way down this rabbit hole, you’ve found some of the chapters of my unpublished memoir, The Cushie Life. It’ is unpublished only because the story isn’t done being written. Read. Share. Comment. Thanks for taking the time.
